Celebrating Bigger Bodies

At Hinterland, we always strive to create a welcoming environment for all, and that includes people in bigger bodies. Fat, plus size, chubby, soft, however you like to describe yourself; we got you. As a fat hiker, our current artist in residence Cara Wood Harris knows first-hand the way that body size can impact your access, self-image, and so much more. Saying a big "fuck off" to the culture that tells us that we need to wait to be in smaller bodies in order to do the things we love, or want to do, played a huge role in Cara's photography, travel, and hiking experiences. She, and our whole crew, are passionate about creating space for others to do the same.

Body Love Yoga Class
Sliding Scale $20-30

Your Fat Friend Watch Party
Suggested Donation $10-20

Our gallery will be open 12-4, and then again after the movie wraps up, from 5:30-6:30. Visit before or after class, check out our cozy crew necks in the shop, and make some art in the workshop.

We're starting the day with an intimate, gentle body love yoga class led by Jenna in our beautiful front parlor. Spaces are limited for a cozy but spacious flow. Blankets and blocks provided; bring your own mat (or contact us if you need one!) Jenna also welcomes participants who would rather join from a chair.

Sliding scale class pricing, $20-30 per person

75 minute class, Doors/Gallery at noon, class begins 1pm

We'll be watching Your Fat Friend, a film by Jeanie Finlay and Aubrey Gordon. Your Fat Friend is "A film about fatness, family, the complexities of change and the messy feelings we hold about our bodies." We have limited space in the parlor, so be sure to reserve your spot early at eventbrite. There's a suggested donation of $10-20 for this event - after streaming fees for each attendee, all proceeds from concessions and donations during the event will go towards size-inclusive and comfortable seating* in our event and classroom spaces.

Doors at 3:15, movie begins at 4pm

Movie snacks available for purchase

*Seating: our current seating at the studio is a varied selection of couches, folding chairs, and stools with varying weight limits and comfort levels (hence the event donations going towards new chairs!) For this event, we'll have a mix of outdoor chairs with higher weight limits and our existing seating. If you have a camp/outdoor/folding chair that is comfortable for you, please bring it! (Hinterland Staff will be sporting our camp chairs as well)

Please contact us with any concerns about seating - we're happy to talk about options, reserve higher capacity seats as needed, and more.

Event Accessibility:

Step-free access, gender neutral bathroom available with large stall, and street parking with two accessible parking spaces available. Additional parking in a parking garage. Please write us for further accommodations.
