Meet the Crew

Founder | Art Director | Senior Tattooer | Plant Toucher
Hayden Welch (she/her)
Hayden is a visual artist and folk musician who also makes a mean pumpkin chili. She's proud to walk in the footsteps of her beautiful family, who have been community organizers and artmakers for generations. Her vocal stimmings and stylings will probably flavor your visit, and include approximately 90% of all songs ever written.

Additional roles:
-
Misplaces scissors

Creative Strategist | Visual Designer | Shop Photographer | Resident Dolphin Girl
Cara Wood Harris (she/they)
Cara has had the immense pleasure of knowing Hayden for 16 years, and has been thrilled to see Hinterland's growth into its current beautiful space. In addition to her role at Hinterland, Cara designs the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Education Program at University of Rochester, and moonlights as a druid, both in D&D and in real life.

Tattoo Artist | Aspiring Resident Fat Boy
Shawnee Hill (she/they)
Shawnee is extremely cool* and has been a sought-after muralist and painter in Rochester for many years. It's pretty dang neat that they work here at the studio, and we're all so delighted to have them. When asked which historical figure they'd most like to meet, they answered their dog, Ruby.

Communications Director | Spymaster
Neil Grayson (he/him)
Neil is a writer, teacher, and the love of Hayden's life lol. If you think a caption was funny, it was probably Neil. If you don't, it was Cara. When not at Hinterland, Neil can be found working as a locksmith around the city, and very slowly designing his own fantasy RPG.

Content Crafter, Workshop Witch, Merch Maven, & Resident Taurus
Tiff Monde (she/her)
If you’re loving our social media vibes lately, its because this babe is at the helm, helping us all share our art and ideas through the social streams we must traverse as a small biz. Originally trained as a journalist, Tiff also brings her keen assessive eye to her tarot and art practices, helping others notice their lives through great questions, connective council, and imagery. She is the co-founder and director of Cursed & Crafted, a twice-yearly gathering of curio merchants and artmakers that brings in participants from all over the Northeast. (A project she and her husband Mike have launched and hosted at our studio!) Alongside her many talents, Tiff is also our resident pop culture queen, with a PhD in Swiftie Studies and a bitching right hook for internet scammers.
