APPOINTMENTS

RESCHEDULING

Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule for any reason.

If you are able to give us this notice, your deposit will still carry over to your rescheduled date.  No-shows, cancellations, or last minute reschedules will result in a loss of your deposit.  We know life happens, but please communicate with us as soon as you are able so we can do our best to accommodate your needs and ours!

PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

Please come to your appointment fed, hydrated, and rested.  Drinking alcohol the night before a tattoo is not advised.  Come in comfortable clothing that suits your tattoo placement and sets you up to sit still comfortably for the duration of your session.

You must bring your ID (You MUST be 18 years or older to be tattooed in New York), and be prepared to provide proof of vaccination. You are welcome to bring any comfort items along with you: I.e sensory aids, headphones, music, water, snacks….etc.

If you have additional accessibility needs that you would like to share, please contact your artist after booking. We are happy to discuss any accommodations we can make to help your experience be as welcoming as possible.

GUEST POLICY

At this time, you may bring one guest along with you to your appointment.  This policy may vary depending on transmission rates of Covid-19. Masks are still required of guests in the parlor.

For safety and liability purposes, children are not permitted in the studio.

SAFETY &
WELLBEING

CURRENT COVID-19 POLICY (2023)

Please wear a mask while visiting Hinterland, especially when in a group, while other groups are present, and if feeling unwell. Masks are required for tattoo appointments.

Masking and other COVID-19 prevention practices create more accessible spaces for those who are vulnerable to serious illness, such as immunocompromised folks. We value the access, inclusion, & wellbeing of all of our community members. Thank you for joining us in this effort.

COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS

Visitors to Hinterland are expected to adhere to our community agreements.

Generally, our agreements ask that visitors (including tattoo clients and event attendees) act with kindness and respect towards all artists, staff, and other guests. Visitors, artists, and staff are expected to be inclusive and welcoming towards people of all identities, genders, races and ethnicities, abilities, and body types. Staff are available as resources for visitors struggling with maintaining welcoming behavior.

SERVICE REFUSAL

We reserve the right to refuse service to clients who we feel are unsafe for a tattoo procedure.  This includes clients who are pregnant, under the influence, those who may not be medically approved by a doctor, or those who are under age.

We may also refuse service to individuals who make us feel physically unsafe or sexually threatened, those who use racial slurs, and/or engage in ableist/transphobic/fatphobic/misogynist behavior.

Hinterland values respect, healthy boundaries, body autonomy, trauma-informed, and justice-centered tattoo practices.  If any artist or client experiences behaviors that do not align with these values, this will be considered a violation of shop policy and the individual responsible will not be welcomed back in the future.

Client Rights

We use an informed consent model for tattooing, ensuring that you have all the information you need to make decisions about your body. We gratefully follow the guidance of Tamara Santibañez and K. Lenore Siner in their co-authored Client Bill of Rights. This document outlines the rights and treatment a client should be able to expect during any tattoo experience.
