Hayden Welch is a multidisciplinary artist and proud Rochesterian. While her creative interests remain broad, she started focusing on tattooing back in 2012, seeking a link between body liberation and her love of illustration.  In a world that would have us believe that our bodies are not our own, she began to see tattoo as an act of autonomy and reclamation.

Hayden’s art and tattoo work is often centered around her fascination with the natural world, death and rebirth, memory and record-keeping.  She explores these themes through sprawling free-handed botanicals, treasured everyday objects and field guide-finds, dot-work and fine line precision, Renaissance-inspired forms and whimsical folk art.  With a background in illustration, she also enjoys delving into narrative compositions that encapsulate imaginary spaces.  Whether its a book nook inside a walnut shell, a respite on a house boat, or a peek into the secret lives of field mice - she’s always down to clown on an imaginary playground.

Hayden lives in downtown Rochester with Comms Director/poet-locksmith (and soon to be husband), Neil Grayson, along with their cat children: Figgs & Sunday.

FAQ: Booking with Hayden

Please refer to our booking info page for our full FAQ and tattoo policies

Why do you use a half- and full-day model?

In 2025 Hayden is moving to a session-based, design-specific model. Rather than charging by the hour, appointments will be priced on a half- or full-day flat-scale rate based on the complexity of each design. This allows for a focus on the artwork over the clock, and ensures that every tattoo gets the time and attention their client deserves.

Clients who have in-process multi-session projects will continue at Hayden’s previous rates until their project is complete.

How do I know if my project is half or full-day?

Half-day sessions are the most common; Hayden will reach out during booking if your project requires a full-day and/or multiple sessions. Her booking form will also ask your preference for half- vs. full-days, so if you’d like to start a larger project but need to take it in smaller bites, you can.

When will I see my design and final appointment cost?

Clients will continue to receive a design preview 24 hours in advance of their appointment, and will receive a more specific price range at that time based on the preview.
